9wks 2days
We heard the heartbeat with the doppler this weekend. I brought it home from work with me on Friday so we could give it a try. 10-12wks is usually the earliest you can hear anything, but sometimes you get lucky as early as 9wks. So Saturday, I had the house to myself for a while and decided to give it a try. I spent forever looking for it and nothing. Sunday, Jeff and I were watching tv and I decided to try again. I found it almost immediately that time. I guess it was just waiting for Jeff to be there too. It sounded great, very fast of course, and loud and clear! Maureen came over later to get her dog and she was able to hear it too. I hope (s)he continues to be this cooperative.

The Grape- 9wks
I found this little blurb on a pregnancy website and thought it was kind of cool. Nothing new to report.
Baby is the size of a grape (nearly an inch long and a fraction of an ounce)
The embryonic tail is gone.
Essential body parts are accounted for.
Baby’s organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear.
The external sex organs are there but not distinguishable yet.
Eyes are fully formed and the eyelids are fused shut until week 27.

8wks 4days
I had another sono yesterday, but the pic didn't come out very good, kind of blury. I forgot to give it to Jeff to scan, so I'll have to post it later.
Everything looks good though. (S)he was measuring 1.8cm, the heartbeat was 170. We could see the head and even make out the two hemispheres of the brain. I wish the picture would have come out better because it was pretty cool.
This week has been kind of tough. Jeff gave me a cold (thanks Honey!), so in addition to the fatigue and nausea, I've been trying to cough up a lung. Still, not too bad. I know it could be a lot worse.
I think we're officially no longer keeping the secret. It wasn't working very well anyway... We told the rest of our family and most of our close friends this weekend. Everyone seems really excited. We got a lot of questions about names and birthing plans and things like that. I honestly can't imagine seriously considering any of those things right now! It all feels a million miles away still. Right now my focus is on just making it through the first trimester!

Blueberry- 7wks 2days
This sono is from yesterday. This still pic really doesn't do it justice. It's so different from last week! The ring is still the yolk sac and the embryo is the rest of the gray area coming off of that. It was .94cm, heartbeat 135. We could make out the arm and leg buds and the tail. Yes- all babies have tails at this point, not just mine! Jeff likes it when they compare the size to food, hence the title. It's about the size of a blueberry right now. For comparison, last week this time it was about the size of a lentil.

We have a heartbeat!
We got to see the heartbeat on sono today and it was lovely! We also got a few good pictures. Everything still looking good and measuring where it should.
The light gray area around the outside is uterus. The big black blob in the middle it the gestational sack. The light gray ring toward the top is the yolk sack. And the squiggly line coming off the ring is the fetal pole- aka embryo.
Here are some videos that show the heartbeat:
